 Featured Map: Cranky Network Awards 2025: Best Aircraft-Enabled Opportunity

Cranky Network Awards 2025
The 2025 Cranky Network Awards will be presented in Phoenix this Thursday by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. At the ceremony, The Cranky Flier will award the best in US/Canada airline network planning.

The previous four Featured Maps looked at the nominees for the two Sexiest New Route categories, both Short-Haul and Long-Haul, then the two Best New Destination categories, for North America and Global.

Today we'll look at the Best Aircraft-Enabled Opportunity category. These aren't necessarilly very long routes like the nominees for Sexiest New Route – Long-Haul but instead are routes that only make economic sense to fly with smaller-yet-capable aircraft. Even with smaller aircraft, these are all sub-daily routes. The nominees are:

  • Air Transat: Toronto to Berlin
    • 2x weekly, 19 June 2025 to 24 October 2025

    • 4x weekly, effective 1 May 2024
    • Airbus A220-300
    • 2,330 mi / 3,750 km
  • Porter: Toronto to Palm Springs
    • 3x weekly, effective 12 December 2024
    • Embraer E195-E2
    • 2,085 mi / 3,355 km
  • United: Newark to Madeira (Funchal), Portugal
    • 3x weekly (seasonal), effective 7 June 2025
    • Boeing 737-8 (MAX 8)
    • 3,178 mi / 5,114 km
