Featured Map for 8 May 2019:
Miami Air International's N732MA

Last Friday, a Boeing 737-800 operated by Miami Air International overrun the runway when landing at NAS Jacksonville and ended up in shallow water in St. John's River. Many people had probably never heard of Miami Air International. Miami Air provides group charter flights using a fleet of six Boeing 737-800 aircraft certified for 180-minute ETOPS, which allows them to fly long overwater routes such as Hawaii from the continental United States. Charter customers include the military, sports teams, cruise lines, and tour operators.

Flight 293, which carried 136 passengers and seven crew members, was part of a regular military shuttle to transport personnel to and from Guantánamo Bay, operating from Norfolk, Virginia with a stop at Jacksonville, Florida each way. The flight operates every Friday and alternate Mondays according to a U.S. Navy spokesperson.

Today's Featured Map shows where the accident aircraft (N732MA) flew over the past three months. Paths involving military bases or otherwise clearly in support of military operations are shown in blue except for the accident flight in red, with other flying in green. One trip across the Atlantic Ocean, to Kuwait and back, is cropped so the bulk of the routes can be seen more easily.
