The D-Day Squadron's fifteen U.S.-based Douglas DC-3/C-47 Skytrain aircraft (called the Dakota by the RAF and RAAF) are on their way across the Atlantic to participate in the 75th anniversary of the start of the Invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944 (D-Day). They will join C-47s from Europe and Australia for Daks Over Normandy, a flyover of more than 30 aircraft to drop 250 paratroopers over the shores of Normandy on 6 June 2019. After that event, the aircraft will continue on to Wiesbaden-Erbenheim for a 70th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift.
Today's Featured Map shows the route for the trip across the Atlantic, from Oxford, Connecticut to Caen-Carpiquet, France, plus Wiesbaden for the Berlin Airlift anniversary.
