The United States' Thanksgiving holiday (the fourth Thursday in November) is followed by the start of the holiday shopping season. The day after Thanksgiving is widely known as Black Friday, typically the largest shopping day of the year for brick-and-mortar stores, followed three days later by Cyber Monday, the largest day for online retailers.
Amazon set new records this year during this shopping frenzy, which means a busy week fulfilling all those orders. Amazon Prime Air—the current fleet of 30 Boeing 767-300ER freighters and not the future drone-based system for deliveries—played a key part in that fulfillment process. Amazon owns this fleet of converted passenger aircraft but contracts flight operations to Atlas Air (22 aircraft) and Air Transport International (ATI; 8 aircraft).
Based at Cincinnati International Airport, these aircraft fly between 20 airports in the contiguous United States. They also serve Honolulu.
Today's Featured Map shows where they flew during the week since Black Friday. Blue indicates routes operated by ATI; gold those operated by Atlas Air.
