Last Thursday, Republic Airways Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Facing a shortage of pilots, one of Republic's goals is to eliminate the smallest aircraft type from its fleet, the 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145. Operated by subsidiary Shuttle America, Republic has 33 of these aircraft though only 31 have been in service over the past two weeks. This fleet operates an average of about 140 flights per day, all for Delta Connection.
Today's Featured Map shows the routes flown by Republic's ERJ-145 fleet. Over one-third of the flights involve New York (JFK); most of the remainder are to or from New York (LaGuardia), Detroit, or Raleigh-Durham.
