56 years ago, on 22 March 1959, jet service begain at Chicago O'Hare with the 9 am arrival of an American Airlines Boeing 707, operating flight 49 from New York's Idlewild Airport (now JFK), which continued to San Francisco. Jet service to Los Angeles began the next month.
