Japan Airlines (JAL) began the first non-stop service between San Diego and Asia today, taking advantage of the performance of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to operate the 4,829-nm flights to Tokyo (Narita) from Lindbergh Field's short, 9,400-foot (2,865-meter) runway. The new service departs four days per week (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday), with daily service to commence on 1 March 2013.
San Diego is JAL's second 787 route to the United States, following service to Boston which begain on 22 April 2012.
