Yesterday, significant progress was announced on the investigations into two airliner accidents.
Air France 447 was an Airbus A330-200 which crashed in the Atlantic Ocean on 1 June 2009 during a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. Yesterday, the Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses (BEA) held a press conference and presented photographs of the wreckage following an announcement the previous day that a search team led by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) had located the wreckage of the flight in water 3,900 meters deep.
United Parcel Service (UPS) 6 was a Boeing 747-400F which crashed near Dubai on 3 September 2009 after a fire was detected in the main-deck cargo area 22 minutes after departure from Dubai. In the United Arab Emirates, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) released its preliminary report on the crash of UPS flight 6.
