Yesterday, significant progress was announced on the investigations into two airliner accidents. and United Parcel Service (UPS) 6, a Boeing 747-400F which crashed near Dubai on 3 September 2009 after a fire was detected in the main-deck cargo area 22 minutes after departure from Dubai.
Air France 447, an Airbus A330-200 which crashed in the Atlantic Ocean on 1 June 2009 during a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. Yesterday, the Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses (BEA) held a press conference and presented photographs of the wreckage following an announcement the previous day that a search team led by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) had located the wreckage of the flight in water 3,900 meters deep.
