Featured Maps: Crash of Air India Express Flight 892 (22 May 2010)

Early Saturday morning, Air India Express flight 812, operated in a Boeing 737-8HG registered VT-AXV (SN 36333 / LN 2481), crashed after a scheduled flight from Dubai to Mangalore.

Not to be confused with Bangalore, Mangalore may be unfamiliar since it only had one relatively short runway until 2005 when a second, longer runway opened. International service to the airport began in October 2006 when Air India Express flight 802 arrived from Dubai. The map below illustrates the approximate path of the accident flight with a few more-familiar airports in India to provide some context.
