Ferrying E190 Parts to Australia

Alliance Airlines is an Australian Airline based at Brisbane with a fleet of Fokker 70, Fokker 100, and Embraer 190 aircraft. The airline provides fly-in fly-out (FIFO) air charter services for mine operators, other charter services, and limited scheduled services. Parent Alliance Aviation Services also sells aircraft components and provides leasing services.

Last year, Alliance announced an agreement to acquire 30 Embraer E190 aircraft from AerCap. These aircraft were coming off lease from JetBlue. Earlier this month, the fourth of these aircraft was ferried from Macon, Georgia to Rockhampton, Queensland, reportedly to be parted out. Southern Cross International (SXI), a Dutch aviation service provider, operated the ferry flights, which involved four intermediate stops. The longest segment, from Majuro to Brisbane, covered 2,662 miles (4,284 km), nearly 95% of the published range of the E190. (Published range is with 100 passengers; an empty ferry flight would have significantly greater range, an important consideration when operating over long overwater regions exceeding the ETOPS certification of the E190 for normal operations.)

Today's Featured Map illustrates the path of the ferry flight.
